Velcord’s sustainability initiative begins with an assessment of the potential environmental impact from design to sourcing to manufacturing. We then take measures and have plans at every stage to mitigate this impact. We also ensure compliance with relevant environmental legislation and regulations.

Our sustainability goal is to evaluate indicators such as emissions, chemicals used, water usage, and raw material procurement. We understand where we can engage our supply chain, internal teams, and customers to make sustainable choices to help reduce the environmental impacts of our products at all stages.

What Sustainable Yarns are we sourcing?

Velcord’s Collection of “Green” fabrics include these sustainable yarns that have a lower impact on the environment. Our range of sustainable corduroy fabric is made with blends of these Tencel, Modal, Bamboo, Hemp, 100% Organic Cotton, Recycled Polyester yarn.

How do we re-use our raw Materials?

Velcord re-uses its small warp and weft yarn cones. This is done by periodically recycling small amounts of leftover yarn to produce larger cones that are effectively used in the weaving process to minimize wastage.

How do we Conserve ENERGY?

Velcord has consciously banned the use of fossil fuels (such as coal, used as an energy source in many Industries). Velcord has developed the sustainability approach, by the use of agro-waste fuels (including use of waste peanut husks) as an energy source.

How do we CONSERVE POWER?

Velcord has an excellent record of power conservation. All its mills have semi-automated panels with capacitors that monitor Power Factors and ensure this is maintained at higher than 90%. Velcord has been successful to claim an energy conservation credit from the Electricity department almost every month by achieving a PF factor of 95% .

How do we CONSERVE WATER?

Velcord believes in maximum conservation of water. All the roofs in the mill are retro-fitted with slanting roofs that transfer the roof water to collection pipes and thereafter to storage tanks as well as into underground pits to recharge the groundwater.

How do we CONSERVE HEAT ENERGY?

Velcord conserves heat by re-using the waste heat produced from the boiler to pre-heat the water in the source tanks. This process increases the water temperature of the feed water by more than 20 C, thus reducing the energy requirements.

How do we RE-USE FABRIC WASTE?

We are constantly looking for applications for our fabric scraps. We work with several up-cycling brands to create beautiful functional products used in stationary, travel and various home applications. We strive for optimum recycling and reuse of all leftover materials.

What are our Sustainability Certifications?

Velcord is internationally certified to manufacture GOTS organic cotton fabrics and OCS organic blended fabrics. These certifications provide for complete traceability, starting from the organic fiber, the yarn, the weaving, and the final finished organic fabric. All the dyes and auxiliaries used are certified organic as well.

Velcord Groups is also certified to provide fabrics made with BCI-sustainable cotton. This certification covers all the 3 pillars of sustainability i.e. environmental, social, and economic thus ensuring the fabric produced follows best practices and is measurably better for the environment.

Velcord also uses Oeko-Tex certified dyes and auxiliaries, thus ensuring every component of the fabric has been tested for harmful substances resulting in high product safety and complete customer satisfaction.

Velcord’s collection of “Green” fabrics also includes sustainable yarns that have a lower impact on the environment. Our range of sustainable corduroy & velveteen fabrics are woven with cotton blends of bamboo, Lenzing ecovero, modal, Tencel, and 100% organic yarns.
